One more thumbs up for online learning – this one from the U.S. Department of Education. “A new analysis of existing online-learning research by the U.S. Department of Education (ED) reveals that students who took all or part of their class on line performed better, on average, than those taking the same course through traditional face-to-face instruction.”
Another point worth mentioning from the findings is that oftentimes what works better than all online (and almost always better than all face-to-face) is “blended learning” – part online and part f2f, which can leverage the best of both mediums.
It must be noted, however, that in this particular case, the study dealt with college students and courses, and not K-12.
