Discoveries & Breakthroughs Inside Science
Want to keep up with the latest discoveries in Science? The American Institute of Physics (in partnership with a coalition of scientific and engineering societies and the The National Science Foundation) produces 90-second reports (in both English and Spanish) for subscribing local TV newscasts all over the United States on “science and engineering news that matters”.
The DBIS companion website is the place to head to if you miss these news clips on TV. It provides not only the text of the report, but also a “Science Insider” section as well as links on the web for more information on the research and science behind the story.
Check out these couple of interesting stories from recent weeks – Flying and Radiation Risk about frequent fliers and exposure to “cosmic radiation”, and Blood Test Predicts Stroke about a new test that cardiologists are using to measure risk factors associated with heart attack and stroke.
The science and engineering news reports are presented under 5 broad categories – Math & Computers, Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Engineering, and Earth & Space.
A great STEM resource indeed to weave into the daily lives of your kids (or students) for reading and discussion.
